KARACHI: Defending champions Omar Cricket Club began their campaign in the 30th Karachi Gymkhana Omar Associates Ramazan Festival Twenty20 Cricket Tournament 2015 with an emphatic 67-run victory over Karachi Gymkhana Whites in their Group A fixture here at the Karachi Gymkhana Cricket Ground the other day.
Batting first, Omar CC amassed 171 for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 20 overs with the opening pair of Nasir Jamshed (51 off 37 balls) and Noman Anwar (31 off 36 balls) setting up a solid platform with a partnership of 99 in 10 overs and a bit.
Saad Nasim (30 off 26 balls) and Fazal Subhan (25 off 22 balls) sustained the momentum afterwards to ensure a defendable total.
Karachi Gymkhana Whites were restricted to 104 for six in 20 overs with Arsalan Malik (29 off 28 balls), Sohail Samana (22 off 31 balls) and Shams-ur-Rahman (19 off 22 balls) being the leading scorers.
Their innings was derailed by left-arm spinner Adnan Kaleem (3-21). Nasir Jamshed was declared Man of the Match.
In another match, Brothers Cricket Club Dadu whacked Karachi Gymkhana Blues by 96 runs with brilliant individual performances from Imtiaz Laghari, Zahid Mahmood and Shiraz Shahjani.
Imtiaz Laghari smashed 11 sixes and four fours in his 101 off 48 balls to help Brothers CC pile up 182 for nine in 20 overs despite off-spinner Shiraz Shajani’s terrific spell of four overs in which he picked up five wickets for only nine runs.
Karachi Gymkhana Blues failed to negotiate the leg-spin of Zahid Mahmood, who captured five wickets for 12, and were bowled out for 86 in 17.1 overs.
