KARACHI: Defending champions Omar Cricket Club got off to sensational start in the 3rd Naya Nazimabad Ramazan Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament 2015 as they blasted ACME Technology by a massive margin of 146 runs in their first Group A match here at the Lawai Stadium the other day.
Saad Nasim came up with a sterling all-round performance and Babar Agha claimed an impressive five wicket haul to script an emphatic win for the holders. They were the joint winners of the Man of the Match award.
Batting first, after winning the toss, Omar CC amassed 213 for five in the allotted 20 overs with Saad Naseem striking seven sixes and two fours in his unbeaten 91 off 43 balls, while Fazal Subhan (44 off 29 balls) and Shaharyar Ghani (32 off 22 balls) also made useful contributions.
ACME Technology, in reply, were bowled out for 67 in 16 with off-spinner Babar Agha claiming five wickets for 14 runs and Saad Nasim taking two wickets for as many runs with his leg-spin.
Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) extended their purple patch by taming Jahanian Tigers by 108 runs in their Group C encounter. It was second successive win for the bankers.
DIB posted a total of 208 for five in 20 overs with Ahsan Ali (39 off 30 balls), Jaffar Qureshi (37 off 19 balls) and Syed Ammar Hassan (33 off 22 balls) being the leading scorers.
Jahanian Tigers lost wickets at regular intervals to be restricted to 96 for seven in 20 overs. Shan Jahandeer top-scored with an unbeaten 29 off 34 balls as the wickets were shared between the off-spinning duo of Hafiz Asad Baig (3-17) and Farid Zafar (2-8).
