‘Assign education sector matters to one ministry’

Islamabad: The federal capital’s private educational institutions have demanded the assigning of all matters on local education sector to one ministry for better management.
Currently, the city’s educations affairs are overseen by the Capital Administration and Development Division, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination simultaneously causing confusion and complications for stakeholders, including educational institutions.
Private Schools Network Central President Dr Afzal Babar told ‘The News’ on Monday that Islamabad’s educational system was in danger of collapse due to the overlapping of responsibilities of the relevant ministries.
He said the city’s educational matters were managed by the Capital Administration and Development Division, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination at the same time.
Dr Afzal said he and other stakeholders had repeatedly demanded of the government to entrust all matters on the capital city’s education both in the public and private sectors to one ministry to end the overlapping of responsibilities and confusion attached lastingly as well as better management, but to no avail.
He said the situation had adversely affected the local education system and thus, giving rise to the fears about the system’s collapse.
The PSN president demanded of the prime minister to take notice of the matter without delay and ensure the tasking of a single ministry with overseeing Islamabad’s educational matters for the relief of stakeholders.
