A senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Wasey Jalil, has described the statement issued in the name of Tariq Mir as part of the ongoing media trial against the party.
“It’s all media trial to hide the real facts and divert the attention of the people from real issues,” he said while talking to The News by phone from London on Saturday.
“Pakistan at present is passing through its crucial phase both internally and externally and is being isolated from the rest of the world. It is time to review our policies and get the country out of these critical situations.”
The MQM, Jalil said, had no worries as in the past too it had faced many challenges and time would surely prove that fabricated statements were being reported in the media.
“We are aware of all the hype that is being created with particular reference to the recent reported statement of Tariq Mir. We have nothing to add at this time,” he said.
Highly placed sources within the party told The News that the Central Executive Council meeting being convened to discuss the overall situation would finalise the future course of action.
A central leader of the MQM, Amin-ul-Haq, also termed the statements generated in the name of Tariq Mir as a media trial against the party.
He said the MQM was still in the hearts of the people and the election results of the NA 246 by-election and the cantonment board elections had proved that fact amply.
Certain forces wanted to crush the middle class leadership, but they would fail in their nefarious designs, he said.
The sources however said that a puzzle was being created but the party was waiting for an opportune time “as we all know that at the end of the day the result would be highly disappointed for those who were campaigning against the MQM.
“A conspiracy is being hatched to corner the MQM. In 1992 too many forces tried to eliminate the MQM but we remained in hiding for quiet sometime and stood against all tyrannical forces. This time too, we would surely steer ourselves out of all situations successfully,” said the MQM’s central leader.
An atmosphere was being created before the next hearing in July in the case against Altaf Hussain but all these tactics would be foiled, he said.
