The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided that it will suspend the registration of the teachers of unrecognised medical and dental colleges and those recommended for closure.
It also said such faculty members would not be given any teaching experience for the said period. The decision has been made during the 139th council meeting in light of the National Health Services and Regulations Ministry’s failure to denotify the medical and dental colleges recommended by the PMDC for closure over inadequate teaching facilities or staff.
According to an insider, the PMDC has sent the ministry many reminders for the purpose over a period of time, but to no avail.
Among the educational institutions continuing to function either without securing the mandatory PMDC recognition certificate or despite the PMDC recommendation for closure are Al-Razi Medical College, Peshawar, (recommended for closure); Hashmat Medical College, Gujrat, (recommended for closure); Pakistan Red Crescent Medical College, Lahore, (recommended for closure); Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal, (recommended for closure); Dera Ghazi Khan Medical College, Dera Ghazi Khan, (unrecognised and recommended for closure), and Dental Section of Bacha Khan Medical College, Mardan, (unrecognised).
The PMDC also decided to consider the adjustment of the students of such colleges in recognised educational institutions. Lately, the PMDC got Hashmat Medical College students transferred in other college on the court’s orders.
