Three directors of the Fishermen Cooperative Housing Society (FCHS), Muhammad Khan Chachar, Kamran Abbasi and Rana Muhammad Shahid, were presented in an anti-terrorism court by Rangers officials in connection with cases of smuggling, corruption and facilitation of terrorists.
The three had been arrested earlier in the week.
According to the prosecution, Muhammad Khan Chachar, was the front man for a woman leader of the Pakistan People’s Party and was involved in several cases, including the murder of Pakistan Steel Mills’ chairman Sajjad Hussain. It was also alleged that Chachar used to sell government vacancies to different people.
About the other two suspects, the prosecution said they needed to be interrogated for their involvement in corruption and target killing cases.
The judge endorsed their detention and issued an order under Section 11-EEEE of the Pakistan Protection Ordinance.
MQM workers remanded
Five suspects, including two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Ubaid-ur-Rehman alias Ubaid K2 and Naeem Siddiqui, were also remanded to the Rangers custody for 90 days so they may interrogated.
The accused had been arrested during a raid by the Rangers in Preedy Street. The Rangers’ law officer said the men who pled for mercy during the hearing needed to be interrogated about target killings.
However, now the law officer concerned of the Rangers took the plea that they needed to be interrogated in the cases pertaining to charges of target killings.
The judge endorsed the plea of Rangers under Section 11-EEEE of the Pakistan Protection Ordinance.
Co-accused released
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) handed over Noman Shah, a worker of the Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM), to police on physical remand for eight days on Saturday.
Noman along with scores of other MQM workers were arrested on March 11 when the Rangers raided the party's headquarters, Nine Zero, and various houses in Azizabad.
The court, however, released a co-accused, Shahid Bashir, after clearing him from murder charges while considering a police report that found him innocent.
It gave Noman Shah's physical remand to police for eight days for interrogation in the murder case of of a citizen, Naeem, who was shot dead in the Surjani police jurisdiction in 2014.
Suspect identified
Before the judicial magistrate (south), three witnesses identified an MQM worker, Usman alias Budha, as the killer of a citizen, Junaid Chaudhry.
The witnesses said the suspect killed Chaudhry in 2014 in the Nabi Bukhsh police limits.
