LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said it was a paradox that the Karachi operation was accepted as lawful as long as only small fish were netted but as soon as it lay hands on big fish, it was declared unconstitutional and anti-democracy. The real issue in the country is that the elite consider itself above the law and constitution, he said while delivering a Friday sermon at the Mansoora mosque.
The law is only for the masses, and no VIP is brought to book for unlawful activities, he added. However, he said that as long as the idol of the status quo was not broken, the rule of the masses could not be established. Siraju Haq said people who had prepared the budget for the Nawaz Sharif government were the same as had prepared the budgets for Pervez Mushrraf and Zardari, and their sole concern was that the elite should not be burdened in any way.
The JI chief said only five per cent elite class had made life miserable for the majority. There is no body in the parliament to raise voice for the poor and the oppressed while feudal lords, capitalists wanted to save their land holdings and factories. On the other hand, he said, the Jamaat-e-Islami wanted to build a welfare state wherein all were equal in the eyes of the law and the rulers a well as poor workers took the same meals.
Stating that the interest based economy had ruined the country’s economy, Sirajul Haq impressed upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stop the fight against Allah and His Prophet (SAW) going on in the form of the interest-based economic system. He said that the rulers had mortgaged even our coming generations in the hands of the IMF and the World Bank but the country’s economy had not improved. He said those who had been promising relief for the masses in the budget should now go into the public and listen to their comments, he added. The government assurances for no loadshedding at Sehr and Iftar timings had also been badly exposed, he added.
The JI chief urged the party workers and the general public to avail the blessings of the holy month of Ramazan by paying special attention to the deprived and the oppressed people and giving preference to the needs of others. He asked the masses to rally under the banner of the Jamaat-e-Islami for establishing a true Islamic system on the model of the Madina state.
