Karachi An anti-terrorism court extended on Friday the remand period of three men facing charges of involvement in the Safoora Goth bus attack, possession of explosive material and encounter with police. The three men, Saad Aziz alias Sain, Tahir Hussain and Asadur Rehman, were brought to the court amid heavy security. The investigation officer of the court prayed to the court that the accused were being interrogated in different cases including possession of illegal arms and explosive material and they needed to be further questioned. The court extended the remand till June 28. On June 13, the three men were produced before an ATC by the counter-terrorism department. The court had remanded them to in the custody of CTD officials for 14 days. The three men, along with 10 absconders including Tayyab Masood, Aliur Rehman and Umer, were allegedly involved in an attack on a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community near the Safoora Goth Chowrangi. In the attack, 44 people were killed and six injured. Aziz has also been remanded in another case – firing gunshots near the Bahadurabad police station and killing Muhammad Khan and Mustansar Abbad besides injuring six others. Aziz and Rehman were also remanded in the Ferozabad police’s custody for 14 days for the murder of a policeman, Arshad, and carrying out an attack on the Jinnah Medical and Dental College vice principal Debra Lobo. The accused are also believed to be involved in the murder of T2F director Sabeen Mahmud. In a separate case, a court rejected the bail plea of an alleged killer, Gul Farid alias Faridoo. Farid, who is facing charges of killing a man within the jurisdiction of the Docks police station, had obtained interim bail and was due to appear in the court of additional district and sessions judge (West) Ahsanullah Khan Durrani for having it confirmed. HE appeared before the judge and moved his application for the confirmation of bail, but the court rejected it and ordered that he should be arrested and sent to jail. He was arrested and taken to the central prison. The court in its order said there was no justification in granting bail to a man who was involved in a murder and it was necessary to ascertain the facts of case and interrogate him for this purpose.
