LAHORE: Lahore High Court Justice Farrukh Irfan Tuesday sought a report from the CTO and asked the lawyers of both parties to come up with final arguments on a petition challenging overcharging at different parking points in the city. The petitioner’s counsel told the judge that the parking mafia was busy looting general public at different parking points in the city. He stated it seemed that there was no authority to check them which had made the life of general public a miserable. Brawls of owners and drivers of vehicles with the employees working at parking places had become a routine, he said.
The CTO told the judge that the action was taken against those who were involved in overcharging in the name of parking if any aggrieved person moved the police. However, the judge showed dissatisfaction over his reply and observed that wardens were seen often busy in chit chats on the roads rather than maintaining the flow of traffic. “What actions are taken against the wardens who don’t perform their duties with the sense of responsibility,” Justice Farrukh asked the officer. The judge adjourned further proceedings till indefinite period.
