PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday obtained seven-day physical remand of Shahi Nawab Khattak, District Population Welfare Officer, and Muhammad Munif, storekeeper of Population Welfare Department Peshawar for their alleged involvement in illegal procurement and distribution of store items.
The NAB officials produced the arrestees before the accountability court headed by Muhammad Ibrahim Khan for physical remand. The NAB prosecutor and investigation officer requested the court for remand of the accused charged with alleged involvement in the illegal procurement and distribution of store items. These included furniture, machinery/equipment and stationery. The act caused millions of rupees loss to the exchequer.
The court granted seven days physical remand to the arrested accused in the case. The NAB had on June 15 arrested Shahi Nawab Khattak and Muhammad Munif. During the course of inquiry, the bureau claimed that it was revealed that the accused Shahi Nawab Khattak in connivance with Muhammad Munif storekeeper manipulated the record.
It said the accused didn’t purchase the store items as per requirement and to hide their misdeeds they merely entered the store items in the district stock register and also entered fake items in the issue vouchers to the outlets. The bureau added that the accused had affixed fake signatures of in-charge of service delivery outlets on some of the vouchers. Some store items were issued to unauthorised persons.
