MARDAN: The Model Criminal Trial Court has decided 11 cases since its establishment on April 1.
On the directive of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a Model Criminal Trial Court started functioning in Mardan district on April 1. According to a statement issued on Thursday, additional district and sessions judge Nadia Syed was appointed the first judge of the model court.
The court, while conducting trials speedily on day to day basis in line with the NJPMC policy, has so far decided eight oldest narcotics and three murder trials in a short span of 10 days, which were lingering for the past several years.
The statement stated that 14 people have been acquitted in these cases due to insufficient and doubtful prosecution evidence while two persons were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs100,000 in the murder cases.
