Campaign launched to curb water wastage

LAHORE: Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Monday launched a campaign against water users involved in wasting clean drinking water and fined many including domestic and commercial consumers.

The campaign was launched on the directions of Wasa Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz who had directed the staff to identify the consumers without any discrimination. He said anyone involved in wasting drinking water would be fined. The campaign would be intensified in the coming days, he added.

The field staff of Wasa has fined over 30 consumers including Mcdonalds, Hameed Latif Hospital, Pakistan Hotel, Allah Nabi Waris Chicken, Victor Hair Saloon and many domestic consumers. Heavy fines were imposed on commercial consumers while a fine of Rs500/- was imposed on domestic consumers for washing cars and unnecessary use of water.

malnutrition: Adviser to Health Minister Punjab Hanif Khan Patafi has inaugurated awareness campaign week for children suffering from deficiency of nutrients. He said the campaign aimed to create awareness about taking care of such children who are suffering from malnutrition. He said taking initiatives on war-footing basis to reduce to the number of children was the need of the hour. During the campaign, screening of children of less than five years of age will be conducted by 45,000 lady health workers by visiting door to door throughout the provinc.

Ramazan bazaars: The district administration would set up 30 Ramazan bazaars and their location would be made public. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Ms Saleha Saeed chaired a meeting regarding the preparation of Ramazan bazaars being set up for the holy month of Ramazan to provide relief to the citizens.

All the officers present in the meeting briefed the DC Lahore about the preparation of the offices regarding Ramazan bazaars on this occasion. Ms Saleha Saeed directed MCL to depute ZOR in each bazaar.

“LWMC was directed for cleanliness in bazaars. Civil Defence was directed for deputing at least 10 civil defence volunteers in each bazaar. Livestock was asked for making sure the availability of meat on stalls. Labour Department was directed to pass weight and measures of all stall owners in Ramazan bazaars. There will be proper security arrangements in bazaars, she added. Meanwhile, the district administration kicked off wheat procurement campaign in the provincial capital on Monday and commenced receiving applications from farmers for issuing gunny bags. To collect applications and procure wheat from growers, District Administration Lahore has set up four wheat procurement centres in the areas, including Barki, Rakh Chabeal, Raiwind and Kahna Kachha Mandi.

In line with the guidance of the government, District Administration Lahore took initiative timely and made all wheat procurement centres functional on Monday.

The DC visited Kacha Mandi Wheat Procurement Centre and inaugurated it. She checked sitting arrangements, installation of fans, clean drinking water and establishment of information desk. The DC observed the process of application submission. She went to market where she monitored the auction process of banana and showed her displeasure for not announcing rates on loud speaker. She warned the secretary market committee and directed him to bring all noted and written record of auction in her office.

PKLI: Provincial Secretary for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Capt (R) Saqib Zafar has solved the issue of salaries and remaining dues of the officials of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institution (PKLI). Saqib took this decision during his visit to PKLI. Special Secretary for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Mian Shakeel was also present. Saqib visited different wards of PKLI to review its performance. PKLI Director Medical Education Ijaz Ahmed and CFO Wazir Muhammad gave a detailed briefing about the administrative affairs and development projects. Saqib said Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid was providing comprehensive guidance for capacity building of the department.
