Police investigators looking into the case of a man who was shot dead while he was asleep on the roof of his house a few days ago claimed to have made a major breakthrough with the arrest of the victim’s wife and her friend.

Forty-year-old Rashid was found dead at his house in Baldia Town’s Qaimkhani Colony in the wee hours of Saturday. The Ittehad Town police had taken his body to the Civil Hospital Karachi, from where it was later handed over to his family.

Initially, the victim’s wife Naureen had claimed before the police that her husband was killed after being hit by a stray bullet. Following the incident, the law enforcers initiated their investigations from different angles.

Their investigations revealed that the incident was not an accident but a murder. The police took Naureen into custody, and during her interrogation she admitted to murdering her husband.

Police said that the woman admitted to killing her husband with the help of her male friend Sherry, who was also a friend of the victim and their neighbour, adding that after the murder they moved the body to the roof.

Police also said Rashid was shot at point-blank range and the wife’s call detail record suggested her involvement in the murder, adding that the male friend was later arrested. The arrested friend told the police that they had rented a pistol from a security guard named Jumman for Rs1,500 to kill Rashid. Police said Jumman worked for a private hospital and was also involved in stealing blood from the health facility and selling it. He has also been arrested.
