LAHORE : The Teaching Staff Association (TSA) of the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) has announced an academic boycott at the university from Monday (tomorrow) against, what it termed, derogatory attitude of the Higher Education Department (HED) officials.

In a press release, the UET-TSA alleged a deputy secretary of HED to blatantly insulting the UET Act, UET authorities including the Syndicate & the Selection Board, and faculty members in the Syndicate meeting held on Saturday.

“The deputy secretary HED refused to accept the proceedings of the university authorities which were conducted as per the university act approved by the Punjab Assembly.

This is a clear disregard of the Act and autonomy of the university,” reads the UET-TSA press release.

“The Higher Education Department has challenged the writ of this oldest technical university in Pakistan and TSA of University of Engineering & Technology is coming forward to defend the repute of our mother institution.

We strongly condemn the derogatory attitude of secretary HED by not participating in the meeting and instead sending his deputy, not even a member of Syndicate, for humiliating our teachers and this reputed seat of learning,” the UET teachers observed in their press release.

They have also demanded immediate removal of Secretary Higher Education Department from his post while demanding that the future secretary HED should personally attend the meetings of the Syndicate.

The teaching staff announced to boycott all teaching activities from Monday in all campuses in solidarity with the university and teachers. “Further, we will record protest by boarding buses from all campuses and reaching the Governor's House on Monday,” they warned.
