Senate secretary re-designated as secretary general
ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani on Friday re-designated the Senate Secretary Amjed Pervez Malik as secretary general of the Upper House of Parliament.
A statement issued by the Senate Secretariat said that the re-designation had been made in recognition of services of Malik, and this was line with the international parliamentary practices. A formal notification has also been issued to this effect.
Sanjrani said, “I hereby re-designate the post of Secretary Senate as Secretary General to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions and service of Amjed Pervez Malik, the incumbent Secretary Senate, in the parliamentary development and strengthening of parliamentary procedures at national and international levels.”
Malik bears a remarkable career spanning well over three decades in rendering public services in both civil and parliamentary administration domains, media and information, development sector and humanitarians work in his official, professional and individual capacities.
Currently holding highest position in the parliamentary secretariat of the Upper House, Malik has personified innovation, improvisation and progressive administrative governance through his services and contributions in diverse fields.
Malik is holder of two graduate degrees MA Economics with distinction from University of Punjab, Lahore and Mass Communication from Leicester University, UK, and had been admitted to PhD programme of governance and Policy Analysis in Maastricht University, Netherlands. He also holds a graduate degree in Law, besides International Diploma in Legislative Drafting from Tulane University and Advance Legislative Course at Government Affairs Institute, George Town University, Washington DC, USA.
He has attended Executive Education Programme ‘Senior Managers in Government’ at Harvard University, USA. Before joining the Parliamentary Service, Malik remained in Civil Service as CSS officer for 10 years. His notable contribution in the field of Information and Media include conceiving and holding first of kind ‘Media Development Workshop’ in 2012 at the advent of private electronic media in the country.
Malik joined the Senate way back in 1995 and strove for legislative and organisational governance strengthening under a strategic plan that prioritised both internal reformation as well as strengthening international relations dimension of Senate to achieve national developmental as well as diplomatic objectives.
He also endeavoured for strengthening bilateral and multilateral connectivity of Pakistan, especially Senate, through effective parliamentary diplomacy. Reflecting the soft, positive and realistic image of the country through strategic alignments of Pakistan’s Senate’s inter-parliamentary engagements as well as individual literary efforts by writing news articles and books like Focus Pakistan has remained a constant strand throughout Malik’s public serviMalik has represented Pakistan in over 45 international conferences, seminars, workshops and training courses sponsored by Inter Parliamentary Union, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments, UNDP, WTO, World Bank Institute etc besides US, UK, Canada, Japan Parliamentary officers training and exchange programmes.
