ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday approved pre-arrest bail for former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur in the mega money laundering and fake accounts case until April 10 against a surety of Rs1 million for each applicant.
The two-member bench, consisting of Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani, heard the petitions filed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman and his sister. After listening to both parties’ arguments, the court granted the bail. The siblings were present in court.
A day earlier, Zardari and Talpur filed a pre-arrest bail petition stating they feared arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as they were summoned by the anti-corruption watchdog in multiple and undisclosed inquiries being carried out against them and pleaded the court to grant them pre-arrest bail until the trial was completed. The applicants had made NAB high officials, respondents in the application.—
