LAHORE : Enforcement teams of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) have foiled an attempt to supply thousands of litres tainted milk, which was hidden in a tanker here Tuesday.
Officials said the milk was being supplied to the provincial metropolis from Sahiwal. They said the teams confiscated 3,000-litre thick white liquid which was termed milk prepared with hazardous powder, ghee and chemicals. It was loaded in a tanker, which was covered with wooden sheets and curtains.
PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said a fully-loaded tank of milk was covered with wooden sheets. He said that PFA had confiscated a vehicle; however, driver fled the spot after seeing food safety teams.
Meanwhile, the authority disposed of thousands of litres prepared fake thick liquid which was to be used for preparing 12,000-litre tainted milk. Meanwhile, the liquid was prepared in the subpar area of Sahiwal to keep safe from the eye of food authority.
Muhammad Usman said that polluted water was usually added to the liquid to increase the quantity of milk. He said that PFA had caught the vehicle after reconnaissance of supply chain. He said that Punjab Food Authority would foil their counterfeiting and chicanery of adulteration mafia by unearthing their hidden production units in Punjab.
