Shopkeeper shot dead in mugging bid

A shopkeeper was gunned down in the New Karachi neighbourhood on Tuesday after he tried to resist a bid to rob him, said the New Karachi Industrial Area police.

Police said two men on a motorcycle arrived at a shop at Bashir Chowk in Sector 5F of the New Karachi Industrial Area and shot a shopkeeper after he resisted their mugging attempt.

The assailants managed to escape the crime scene. The injured shopkeeper was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as 25-year-old Aftab Ramzan, who hailed from Punjab.

SHO Rashid Ali said the robbers were trying to escape after looting cash, mobile phones and other valuables when the shopkeeper managed to catch one of them, following which one of the robbers fired on him. Police said they have gathered the evidences found on the crime scene, while the CCTV footage of the incident will also be obtained.
