The NED University Employees Association staged a sit-in outside the vice chancellor’s office here on Monday, demanding the establishment of a departmental promotion committee and issuance of leave encashment and payment of other allowances.
Employees carrying placards and banners raised slogans against the former administration, declaring them responsible for bringing the university to the brink of bankruptcy.
The protest led by association's senior vice president, Abdul Qadir Gabol, called for the government to address their genuine demands as per the rule and policy of the university and the Higher Education Commission.
Gabol said the university administration had also turned a blind eye to their pleas as despite the press conference they held last month, the employees had not yet received any leave encashment, overtime payment, departmental promotions and house ceiling benefits.
Registrar Gazanfar Hussain issued a letter to all the respective departments of the university where he warned the employees to not associate with the association, otherwise departmental action would follow. The NED administration called Rangers to avoid any untoward situation on the campus. Gabol called it an act of intimidation to harrass the protesters.
