Mayor to receive Christchurch martyr’s body
The body of Syed Areeb Ahmed, one of the Pakistanis who were martyred in the Christchurch carnage, will be brought to Karachi on Monday (today). Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar will receive the body at the Jinnah International Airport at 10am and hand it over to Areeb’s family on behalf of the citizens of Karachi.
A total of nine Pakistanis are included in the 51 martyrs of the March 15 terrorist attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand, when a terrorist opened fire inside two mosques of the city. Talking to The News on Sunday, DMC Central Chairman Rehan Hashmi said Areeb was a chartered accountant and the only son of his parents. Areeb’s father was a local businessman and an office bearer of the Hyderi Market association, Hashmi said.
Areeb has also left behind a daughter, the DMC Central chairman said, adding that the deceased’s family lived in Federal B Area near Sangam Ground. The funeral prayers for Areeb will be held either after Zuhr or Asr prayers, Hashmi said.
