PESHAWAR: Sustainable Forest Management (SFM), a non-governmental organisation, working against deforestation and conservation of wild species, Thursday organised a function to mark the International Forest Day being observed across the globe on March 21.

The ceremony was attended by people representing cross-sections of society including environmentalists, foresters, academia, public representatives, teachers, students, civil society members and government servants.
The objective of the event was to create awareness among masses about the importance of forest for the sustainability of biodiversity on earth.
Speakers of the ceremony threw light on the importance of forest for a clean environment and for ensuring good public health due to the availability of pollution free air to breath.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Project Coordinator SFM, Faiq Khan apprised participants of the ceremony about objective behind the observance of World Forest Day.
He also informed the attendants about the efforts being made on the platform of SFM for protection of forest and recovery of denuded lands. He said for the first time in the history of KP Wildlife population survey has been initiated in Haripur district of the province by the SFM.
