Govt planning to launch national service programme for teachers’ training: Shafqat

Islamabad “ In a bid to provide quality education to the students, the government was planning to launch a National Service Programme to train the teachers of public sector schools.

These views were expressed by the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood here Monday at a summit titled ‘Investing in Pakistan’ organised by the World Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government was contemplating to overhaul the contemporary education system and working on significant reforms urgently required to revamp the education sector.

He reiterated that out of school children would be brought back to schools as per vision of the prime minister.

Sharing the future plan, he stated that around two million children were out of schools across the country while the number of these children was 28,000 at federal capital.

"We want to know the basic reasons due to which the parents do not send their children to schools", Shafqat said.

The government, he said, had also a plan under which each and every child would be provided access to education, so that the children could be eligible to make their future successful.

He said the Ministry of Education was also making efforts to introduce uniform education system as it was the need of the hour.

“We were making efforts to raise the quality of education besides introducing uniform education system.

We were also focusing on imparting of skills development education to youth,” he said.

The government will set a standard in education where the students would be able to utilize their education in practical life, he added.

"We were focusing on education and health sector across the country", the minister said.

He said the government was also making efforts to eradicate the poverty.

In Pakistan both the poor and rich have the same rights, he said and underlined the need for taking necessary steps to improve human capital.

To meet the challenges facing by the country, the minister said, was a difficult task but not impossible.
