Former army officer, cop held over fraudulent activities

The District Central police have busted a gang, including a dismissed policeman and a former army officer, allegedly involved in the sale and purchase of vehicles and properties by means of fraudulent misrepresentation.

The arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by District Central SSP Arif Aslam Rao at his office on Friday. “The gang members who were involved in cheating the public by purchasing expensive cars and properties through fake pay orders have been busted.”

He said that the suspects recently bought a Land Cruiser from Rafiuddin by giving a fake pay order of Rs3 million, and a case in this regard was registered at the Sharae Noor Jahan police station on March 1.

SSP Rao said that New Karachi SHO Rashid Ali while investigating the case arrested the suspects with the help of technical data and with the assistance of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee, and recovered Rafiuddin’s car.

He said that the dismissed police head constable, Ayub, was the ringleader of the gang and the retired army officer, Danish Qadri, was one the gang members. Qadri was dimissed from Pakistan Army over fraudulent activities after a court martial.

They were also involved in kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crimes. The other two suspects, Asmatullah and Farhan, also had criminal record. Fake army and intelligence agencies’ cards, fake permit for carrying weapons, scanners, material used in making fake bank drafts and weapons were recovered from the suspects. The cases against them have been registered while an investigation is underway.
