Asad launches plantation campaign

Islamabad : Finance Minister Asad Umar launched the spring plantation campaign by planting a sapling here on Thursday.

The minister said Pakistan was ranked among the countries vulnerable to climate change. "Tree plantation is important to protect the environment from degradation," he said.

Asad Umar said one million saplings would be planted in the federal capital during the campaign.

Earlier, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's senior leader, Jahangir Tareen, said the government we had planted one billion trees in Khyber-Pakhtunkhuwa successfully and expressed his resolve of planning as many as 100,000 trees in Lodhran in the current year.

Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had launched the 10 billion tree plantation programme saying to address climate change and pollution, the forestation of the land will occur in addition to the establishment of wildlife parks.
