LWMC to initiate clean and green campaign

LAHORE: Officers of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) are directed to clean the city as per the instructions of Prime Minister’s initiative clean & green campaign.

This was directed by Managing Director Khalid Nazir while chairing a meeting in LWMC’s head office. Khalid asked the officials including general managers, managers & assistant managers to roll up their sleeves to provide extraordinary sanitation services to citizens and everyone should be on their toes to perform.

He said we have gone an extra mile to ensure best cleanliness services in the city and we are engaged in the clean & green campaign. Lahore Waste Management Company is holding up cleanliness awareness drives in schools, commercial markets and residential areas, social mobilisation team along with operational staff is visiting different areas of the city to sensitise the locals on proper disposal of waste.

A special sanitation week will be celebrated in the city this month & Lahore Waste Management Company will work along with other departments in beautifying the city. In this regard special cleanup operations are being executed around educational institutes, commercial markets, mosques & hospitals. The objective of the activity is to reach out to maximum people in order to raise the importance of cleanliness.

The MD said clean and green campaign was being implemented in rural areas along with union councils of urban areas of the district. All resources would be utilised to make this programme a success.

He said special focus would be given to rural areas and Lahore Waste Management Company would conduct awareness sessions in these areas by engaging students, traders and public representatives.

He underlined that public cooperation was a must to make city clean. Local Government is observing a cleanliness week and officers from district administration along Lahore Waste Management Company officials are monitoring performance and implementation of the program in their respective area

Meanwhile, District Administration Lahore carried out a Clean and Green ceremony in a private school at Barki on Wednesday afternoon where Lahore DC, Ms Saleha Saeed along with officers of district administration took part in plantation campaign, hand washing and cleanliness activities.

Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed herself planted a sapling on the premises of the school and observed the activity of cleanliness and hand washing by the students. Addressing the students, she said that no civic campaign could be successful without the involvement of the citizens so keeping this thing in mind district administration had been involving school students in all its campaigns whether it is polio or cleanliness.

"Students are our ambassador who will spread our message of cleanliness, plantation and polio vaccination in every corner of the district. So, it is the duty of every student to participate in the campaign vehemently with national enthusiasm", she added. Saleha Saeed appreciated the anti-pollution models prepared by the students. The students present on this occasion also expressed commitment to take part in the campaign as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to make the mother land clean and green.

Tree plantation: A tree plantation campaign was launched under the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign at the Lady Aitchison Hospital here on Wednesday. Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Iqbal inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling on the hospital premises.

Speaking on the occasion, he said as per vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the hospital would ensure the maximum participation to make the campaign successful. MS admin, DMS admin, doctors and other staff members were also present.
