PESHAWAR: Two foreign-based academicians on Monday enlightened the IMSciences students on the image processing and data gathering on the changing climate.

Professor Dr Gwangill Jeon of the Incheon National University, Xidian, China, and Dr Awais Ahmad, who is a senior scientist at the University of Degli Studi di Milano, Italy, delivered the sessions at the IMSciences.

Director IMSciences, Dr Mohammad Mohsin Khan and the teachers welcomed the resource persons.

Dr Gwangill specializes in the field of image processing, a process called “Demosaicking and image enhancement”.

The professor apprised the IMSciences students of the process. He explained that a demosaicking algorithm is a digital image process used to reconstruct a full-colour image from the incomplete colour samples from an image sensor overlaid with a colour filter array.

It is also known as CFA interpolation or colour reconstruction. This was a new subject matter for the students of IMSciences.

Dr Awais Ahmad talked about the concept of ‘Big Data’. He elaborated that the entire world has a data-rich environment now because of extraordinary technology.

The speaker said more data is being generated by satellites orbiting the earth. He showed the students how it is possible to gather information about the changing climate and ecosystem of the Earth and how human actions affect them.
