Crackdown on drug peddlers continues

LAHORE: Lahore police have its crackdown against drug sellers particularly foreigners around educational institutions.

Police have arrested as many as 282 drug peddlers during this year from different areas of the city including a Nigerian and other foreigner drug sellers belonging to African and other countries.

Lahore DIG Operations Muhammad Waqas Nazir has directed divisional SPs to constitute special teams to initiate crackdown on major drug sellers. Police have recovered more than 468kg of Charas, 12kg of heroin, 79kg opium and 1.5kg of ICE along with thousands of narcotic pills.

A spokesperson said police have arrested international drug cartel led by Nigerian citizens Makawa, Femi and Paul. Police have also arrested Roger, Martin and his local wife from Cantt area who were involved in smuggling drug related chemicals into Pakistan and selling prepared crystal methamphetamine in Lahore.

Special teams have also nabbed Saad Khan of an inter-provincial gang involved in dealing ICE in the city. Police have also arrested Komal Arooj, operating in cocaine in South Cantt area, John with his local accomplices from Defence area where as Jalal Khan and Umer gangs operating in KPK, Islamabad and Lahore.

Lahore police particularly focused on foreigners involved in supplying drugs to the students and various high end parties including; Leticia and Chinedu Kingsley from Defence, Chigioke Romanus from Raiwind, Paul from Nawab Town, Chokodaur from Nishter Colony and Okeke Makawa from Kahna areas.

Police have also busted gangs pertaining to local drug barons including Kashif Butt, Shahid Ali and Haider Ali from Shahadara, Shehbaz from Sanda, Ghulam Mustafa from Misri Shah, Allah Rakha from Johar Town and Jordan from Kot Lakhpat area.

Arif Lohar visits PSCA: Internationally acclaimed artist, Sufi Pop and traditional folk icon of Pakistan, Arif Lohar turned up at Punjab Safe Cities Authority recently. Akbar Nasir Khan, COO PSCA, received him and accompanied him through various sections of the IC3 while briefing him on their functions and domains.

CAO Muhammad Kamran Khan also welcomed the guest. In his short address to police communication officers, Arif appreciated the youth workforce for lifting up heavy responsibility of security profiling and management of the metropolis. He urged the citizens to act responsibly abiding by the law in all situations especially when on roads and emphasised they all must respect national resources and quit, once and for all, their condemnable sense of humor for pranking and making hoax calls on emergency helpline 15.

He also sang couple of his famous tunes such as "Jugni" to the officers. Later, he took part in FM 88.6 Radio Safe City live programme for interaction with PSCA's radio audience.

road accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has responded to 931 road accidents in all Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents 14 people have died, whereas 1,083 were injured.
