Poetry recital held at NPC
‘Sadayay Sukhan’, a literary organization, in collaboration with National Press Club (NPC) organized the honorary event “Ek Shaam Arshad Meraj ke Naam (An evening with Arshad Meraj)”dedicated to the poetry of leading poet Arshad Meraj to discover aspects of his multilayered works.
Poets from Faisalabad, Lahore, Quetta and the twin city of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were invited to participate in the event. The poets who entertained the audience with their poetry were Maqsood Wafa, Arshad Meraj, Mehboob Zafar, Abida Taqi, Syed Majid Shah, Ahmad Farid, Munir Fayyaz, Ghayyur Hussain, Taimoor Zulfiqar, Bilal Aswad from Quetta, Mansoor Faez from Lahore.
Maqsood Wafa, a prominent poet and author of many books, presided over the event, compered by Chairman ‘Sadayay Sukhan’ M. A. Doshi.
The evening started with recitation from the Holy Quran. At the outset, Chairman ‘Sadayay Sukhan’ M. A. Doshi while welcoming the audience and presenting an introduction of this literary organization said that the objective of ‘Sadayay Sukhan’ is to keep all the litterateurs and intellectuals on one platform that is why it has been organizing these events regularly to build their strong and vibrant community.
“When I read the latest book of Arshad Meraj titled “Dostoun Kay Darmian”, I thought why not listen to the beautiful poet of nazm among the friends (dostoun kay darmian), that’s why today’s event has been named ‘An Evening with Arshad Meraj’, he explained.
This evening with a selected poet is held every month. The evening is part of a literary series ‘Sadayay Sukhan’ has been holding to recognize the services of poets. The organization seeks to organize more events like these in the future to provide poets and other poetry aficionados with exposure to contemporary trends in poetry, and a platform to express their love and passion for Urdu poetry.
The poet of the evening Arshad Meraj before reciting his ‘nazms’ from his latest poetry collection and winning over ‘wah wah’ offered thanks to Chairman ‘Sadayay Sukhan’ M. A. Doshi for arranging such memorable evening in his honor and said I have been attending such evenings for the last many years in but this event by far stands the tallest in terms of poets’ recital and audience response and expect more such events so that one can listen to the young poets.
In his presidential address, Maqsood Wafa presented a brief but comprehensive comments on the book of Arshad Meraj titled “Dostoun Kay Darmian” and regaled the audience with his piercing and thought provoking ‘kalam’ delivered with vigor and passion
In the end, Chairman ‘Sadayay Sukhan’ M. A. Doshi thanked the poets and audience and was all praise for the journalists and media partners for making the event a success.
