Peace activists demand dialogue between Pakistan, India

LAHORE : Peace activists from across civil society called for strategic restraint, observance of ceasefire across Line of Control, international borders an end to war mongering by India.

Addressing a peace conference convened by SAFMA, PIPFPD and Progressive Writers Association here, they also urge reigning in outlawed terrorist outfits, an end to atrocities against Kashmiris and resumption of an uninterruptible and comprehensive dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Reiterating their concerns over militarisation of the region, nuclear proliferation and arms race, the peace activists emphasised the urgency to put in place nuclear-stabilisation regime, divert resources from arms race to the benefit of hundreds of million people suffering from poverty and impoverishment.

The peace conference participants appealed to all who mattered to engage in a comprehensive dialogue and resolve all differences through peaceful means.

The peace activists called upon the two governments to take confidence building measures, activate diplomatic channels and allow people-to-people contacts.

They lauded the peace activists of Pakistan and India who kept the flag of peace flying despite high fever of war hysteria of India.

The SAFMA secretary general presided over the conference. PMP-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid, PPP’s Farhatullah Babar, AWP’s Farooq Tariq, Mohammed Tehsheen from PIPFPD, senior journalist Hussain Naqi, PWA’s Dr Alim Khan addressed it. All the participants also passed a resolution.
