Women’s role in decision-making highlighted
Islamabad : Women, who make up more than 50 per cent of the world’s population, can immensely contribute to the social, economic, and political decision-making processes in order to build a balanced, safer, more inclusive and harmonious society.
Senator and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and Heritage Faisal Javed Khan delivered these remarks at an International Women’s Day event organiSed by Shifa International Hospital here Friday.
Faisal reiterated the vision of the PTI government for women’s empowerment and reaffirmed commitment for continuous advocacy and support to ensure provision of equal rights to women in all walks of life.
Dr. Zarina Hassan, a visually impaired rock climber, painter and social activist gave a heart-warming inspirational talk on the occasion. Dr. Zarina lost her eyesight to glaucoma a few years ago.
She shared her life story as to how she managed to overcome adversity with self-belief, passion and determination, and eventually evolved into an artist, a writer, and a social activist. She said that her work is meant to inspire, give hope, and radiate positivity.
Renowned Pakistani adventure athlete Samar Khan, who has become the first woman in the world to cycle atop the 4,500 meter-high Biafo Glacier in the Karakoram mountains, inspired the audience with her thrilling story of dedication and courage.
She said that being a female, it was never easy for her to accomplish her dream; still nothing can stand ahead of resilience, and determination. She advised the female audience to keep dreaming and exploring their purpose of life by facing life’s adversity with courage.
Dr. Mazoor-ul Haq Qazi, the CEO of SIH said, women play a significant role in nurturing and managing a family in their different roles as a mother, daughter, sister, and wife.
“Today’s women are also making a vital contribution by utilising their professional skills and abilities,” he added. Dr. Kazi reiterated the corporate vision of SIH to provide a safe and conducive environment to all its female employees.
In the end, appreciation awards were presented to journalist Razia Khan and notable female employees of the hospital.
