GILGIT: The electioneering for 24 seats of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) legislature has entered last week as polling will take place on Monday (June 8). The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) has fielded candidates on all 24 seats followed by the Pakistan People’s party (PPP) that has run 14 candidates. The Muttahida Majalis-e-Muslmin and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf are also contesting the polls.
The ruling PML-N, in a show of strength, took out seven kilometre long rally on Wednesday in Gilgit town, and it was led by PM’s Political Secretary Dr Syed Asif Saeed Kirmani and PML-N GB President Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman. Dr Sayed Asif Saeed Kirmani represented Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and later delivered message of Prime Minister Nawaz in the Public meeting. The rally was preceded hundreds of motor cyclists. It had a round of the city and culminated turned in to a meeting at Yadgar Chowk where Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yusuf, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman Senator Nehal Hashmi and Dr Muhammad Iqbal addressed the meeting.
Dr Saeed Asif Saeed Kirmani said that the PTI has no face to contest polls since its government in KP has committed unprecedented dishonesty and cruelty against the people of the province. The bloodshed is ongoing unabated due to poor management of the PTI
government in the province even after elections are ended. He said it is a high time to punish the people who not only wasted precious eight months of the nation but also responsible for blood shedding in KP.
Dr Kirmani said that Nawaz Sharif is a man of the word, and he will fulfil each and every commitment he made with the people of GB, he said. Political Secretary to the PM said that the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would transform the life of people of the area.
Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yusuf said that Nawaz Sharif is determined to change the destiny of the people of GB side beside other parts of the country. The PTI chairperson will also hold a public meeting here today (Thursday) in Gilgit.
The PPP will hold its last public meeting on Friday. GB Governor Chaudhary Barjees Tahir isn’t taking side in the polls or campaign as he is looking after the law and order and administration of the province.
