PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Wednesday stressed the need for taking concrete steps for ensuring the security of the masses.
Through a statement issued here, he said that the fundamentalism and terrorism was a global issue and required collective efforts to defeat this menace.
The ANP leader said that his party had been urging the government to implement the National Action Plan (NAP) that had been formulated after the consensus of all political parties.
All stakeholders agreed on NAP after a heavy price in the shape of the martyrdom of innocent children of the Army Public School, he added.
Mian Iftikhar said that implementation of NAP would be the biggest achievement of the nation while failure would result in a disaster for the nation.
He said it was an open secret that how and why terrorism started in Pakistan and who had supported and strengthened terrorists.
The world had been demanding meaningful action against terrorists, he went on to add.
The ANP leader said the government should not take credit for taking action against the outlawed organisations as it was leading apologists for terrorists
and had demanded the opening of an office for the Taliban.
It was high time the government stopped using action against the outlawed organisation for political purposes and took the right steps to rid the country of militancy and extremism, he added.
