Four suspected robbers gunned down in encounters

Three suspected criminals were killed during an alleged encounter with police in Gulshan-e-Jamal police on Wednesday.

The encounter took place near Rashid Minhas Road within the limits of the Sharea Faisal police station.

District East SSP Ghulam Azfar Mahesar said that the police were already on high alert due to the security arrangements ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He said that the SHO of the Sharea Faisal police station along with his team was deployed for snap checking in the area when locals informed them that some suspected men were trying to enter a house in the area. When the police reached the scene, an exchange of fire ensued between them and the suspects, and three suspects were wounded while one managed to escape.

The SSP said that the suspects succumbed to their injuries when they were being transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The bodies were shifted to a morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities. The police also claimed to have seized arms and ammunition and recovered cell phones and motorcycles from the suspects.

Mahesar said the recovered weapons had been sent to the forensic division of the Sindh police for ballistics cross-matching. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam appreciated the police for taking successful action against the street criminals.

Suspected mugger killed

A suspected criminal was killed during an alleged encounter with the police in the Dalmia area. Police officials said that the encounter took place when the police found the suspects mugging people at gunpoint.

Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire on them and tried to escape under the cover of fire. In retaliation, the police fired back and killed one of the suspects while the other managed to escape. The body was shifted to a morgue for identification. A case has been registered while an investigation is underway.

Incidents of robberies and muggings are on the rise on the city. Five people were wounded over putting up resistance to a robbery bid in Korangi on Monday. Police officials said the incident took place within the precincts of the Awami Colony police station. The injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The police said that six armed men riding two motorcycles entered a milk shop and looted Rs70,000; however, the suspected robbers opened indiscriminate fire when the shop owner offered resistance. The robbers managed to escape along with the cash. The victims were later identified as 45-year-old Anwar Ali, owner of the shop, Farhan Bashir, Naeem Hameed, Sameer Yaqoob and Aqeel Nazeer Ahmed.
