499 drug peddlers arrested in February

LAHORE: Police in continuation of a crackdown on drug peddlers in the City arrested 499 accused in February.

DIG Operations Muhammad Waqas Nazir had directed all the divisional SPs, DSPs and SHOs to initiate grand operation against the criminals particularly drug peddlers involved in selling narcotics around educational institutions. Lahore Police arrested 499 drug peddlers in various areas of the City.

City division police registered 105 FIRs, Cantt division police 75, Civil Lines division 64, Sadar division 65, Model Town division 95 and Iqbal Town division police 65 FIRs during the crackdown.

Police also seized more than 9kg heroin, more than 219kg charas, more than 70kg opium, 6,596 litre liquor from the arrested persons.

NCHD delegates: A seven-member delegation from National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) headed by NCHD Chairman Col (r) Dr Ameerullah Marwat visited the Rescue 1122 Headquarters and Emergency Services Academy here.

The delegates met Punjab Emergency Services Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer and discussed with him the comprehensive model of emergency management system for jointly working in interest of the public.

They said joint work could be done by utilising motivated human resources of National Commission for Human Development to voluntarily work as community emergency response teams (CERTs) at the union council level for improving emergency preparedness, response and prevention.

The delegates observed the practical professional skills of rescuers and also reviewed the ongoing training at Emergency Services Academy in different fields of emergency management.
