Zeeshan’s family rejects JIT report

LAHORE: The family of the driver, Zeeshan, killed in Sahiwal incident has rejected the JIT report. Zeeshan’s widow, mother and brother held a press conference here on Monday and his mother said earlier police had declared Zeeshan as terrorist and now they are declaring her other son as terrorist. Zeeshan’s mother said the JIT report was based on false statements. Zeeshan’s brother Ehtisham said the department had scrutinised him during recruitment. Now they are making him suspect just to dispel pressure. He questioned as to why the JIT did not search his house if his brother Zeeshan was a terrorist.

Technology: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amjad Javaid Saleemi delivered a lecture to trainee officers at Civil Service Academy here on Monday. Common Training Programme Director Zulfiqar Yonus presented a souvenir to the IGP. “Two thousand martyrs of Punjab police have ascertained that the protection of lives and wealth of public is the top priority of Punjab police and for this great purpose police will not hesitate to sacrifice their lives.

To enhance the capacity of Punjab police, modern technology is being adopted with contemporary needs. The concept of public-friendly police is being highlighted with the monitoring of police stations. I am monitoring 8,787 complaint cells to make sure public safety and police internal accountability,” Amjad Javaid Saleemi said while giving a lecture to 272 under-training officers.

Common Training Programme Director Civil Services Academy Zulfiqar Yonus and Chief Instructor Muhammad Asim were present.

The IG informed the trainee officers about initiatives taken, especially for service delivery in Punjab police, use of technology, establishment of specialised units, establishment of internal accountability in department, capacity-building of force, reforms in investigation process, efforts to eliminate terrorism, strategies to stop crimes and roadmap for police reforms.

After the lecture, a session of question and answer was held. At the end of the session, Miss Pari Gill from trainee officers thanked the IG.

accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 927 road accidents in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In these accidents, 15 people died and 1,052 were injured. Around 618 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals.

outlaws arrested: Sadr division police in its crackdown on criminals arrested 159 outlaws and recovered 12 pistols, four rifles, a gun, bullets, a bike, mobile phones, five-kg and 925-grm charas and 153 bottles of liquor.

Sadr division SP Syed Ali had directed the DSPs and SHOs concerned to take strict action against criminal gangs. Accordingly police busted two gangs and arrested its four members, recovered a bike, mobile phones and other valuables.

Forty-five proclaimed offenders of B categories in cases of murder, kidnapping, theft, cheque dishonour, fraud and other crimes whereas 10 court offenders were arrested.

Police recovered thousands of rupees from the criminals in its action against gamblers. Sadr division police also arrested 70 people for violating kite flying and rental Acts.
