Three girls killed in Islamabad traffic mishap

Islamabad : Three young women were killed and a young woman and a man were seriously injured when the car, being driven by Ms Rimsha, crashed into the protective railing on the bridge and subsequently plunged in a nullah on Parbat Road in Sector F-7/3. The unfortunate accident occurred at around 2:25 a.m.

The bang of the crash was so loud that it alerted the police guards on duty at the official residences of the Chief Commissioner and Chairman CDA as well as those on duty at the residence of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, located less than a couple of hundred meters from the scene of the accident.

A young guard of the CDA, Mr Bilal, was the first one to reach the scene of the accident and started helping the injured woman, who was screaming for help. Later, he was joined by some other people in the rescue activities before the Rescue 1122 and the police officials from Kohsar Police Station reached the spot.

While talking to ‘The News’, Mr Bilal, the CDA guard, said that he heard the loud crashing sound and ran towards the bridge where he heard the screams and shouts for help. He saw badly damaged vehicle sinking in the nullah and scrambled down to help those screaming from the sinking vehicle. The brief report registered by the Kohsar Police Station Investigation Officer mentioned that the vehicle plunged into the nullah after crashing the protective railing on the small bridge while moving from F-7/4 towards Khayaban-e-Iqbal (Margalla Road) after crossing the traffic signal.

The police report identified Ms Rimsha as the driver, who died on the spot. Two other young women killed on the spot were identified as Ms Eisha and Ms Hina. Two injured victims were identified by police Mr Hamza son of Mr Aamir and Ms Nimrah.

According to police report the dead women Ms Rimsha was a resident of House 25, Street 6, F-11/4, Ms Hina was from Karachi and Ms Eisha was from DHA Phase-II, Lahore.

The injured and the bodies of deceased were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) by the police.

Further probe into the incident by this scribe revealed that the women and the man involved in the unfortunate accident were returning from a party held somewhere in street 60 in Sector F-7/4. Ms Rimsha, the young woman, was driving the car at a very high speed whose attention was diverted when she received a message on her phone and took away eyes from the road to glance at her phone. Evidently, in that friction of a second she lost control of the vehicle which crashed into the not so strong railing on the bridge, tore away part of it and plunged deep into water under the bridge.

The accident has once again highlighted the inadequate safety steps to be taken by the CDA like proper road markings and installing reflectors/cats eyes on the road to warn the motorists on the road, especially at night time.
