Sami takes hat-trick as United overpower Zalmi
KARACHI: Skipper Mohammad Sami’s hat-trick enabled Islamabad United to win their HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Peshawar Zalmi by 12 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday night.
Chasing 159 for victory, West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard kept Peshawar in the game after they lost early wickets. He hit five sixes and three fours for his 22-ball 51.
It was 18-year-old debutant Mohammad Musa who shook Peshawar with key wickets of Kamran Akmal (7), Dawid Malan (1) and Sammy to give a glimpse of his talent.
Pollard added 55 runs with Sammy (11) as Peshawar needed 58 in the last five overs. He hit two sixes off Samit Patel and then another two off Shadab Khan to give Islamabad a scare. He holed out to Faheem Ashraf, who took 2-32.
Sami finished off the game by ending Wahab Riaz’s cameo of 8-ball 20, and then dismissing Umaid Asif and Hasan Ali on the next two balls. He took 3-22.
Earlier, Islamabad ended up on 158-9 in their 20 overs with Ian Bell scoring a patient 46-ball 54 with six boundaries and 18-ball 29 by Cameron Delport who hit two sixes and a boundary.
Islamabad were rocked by the pace of Sameen Gul (3-29) and Hasan Ali (2-29) after they were sent into bat. Sameen removed Luke Ronchi (21) and Sahibzada Farhan (15) in his first spell.
