Healthcare and the PTI
It has been seven months since that the new government of Imran Khan took over. One of the reasons why the majority voted for the PTI was because of the party’s promise to work for the health and education sectors. Before the 2018 elections, the PTI-led KP government launched the Sehat Insaf Card scheme. Even now, the PTI-led government has taken laudable steps towards bringing improvements in the healthcare department. Talking about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, the budget for health has tripled, from Rs30 billion in 2013 to Rs80 billion in 2018. Also, the scope of the health card which was originally limited to KP has now been extended across the country. The purpose is to provide best healthcare facilities to the people of lower socio-economic backgrounds.
That being said, I believe that there is still a room for improvement. The government needs to join hands with private institutions which are working in this field and benefit as much as they can from their resources to provide even more relief to people.
