UC chairman, cop’s remand extended in Ranjhani killing case
The anti-terrorism courts’ (ATCs) administrative judge extended on Wednesday the physical remand of UC chairman Abdul Raheem Shah and police officer Riaz Hussain for four days after police sought more time to complete interrogation in the Irshad Ranjhani murder case.
Ranjhani, an activist of the Jeay Sindh Tehreek, was shot by Shah in Bhains Colony on February 6 on the pretext that he was a robber. According to remand papers, Shah did not let anyone shift Ranjhani to hospital until the arrival of police and Hussain further delayed treatment by taking the injured to the police station instead of hospital.
The suspects were earlier remanded by a District Malir judicial magistrate for unintentionally killing Ranjhani. However, later they were remanded under the Anti-Terrorism Act after police lodged another FIR under a premeditated murder clause against the suspects on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
The administrative judge directed the investigation officer to bring a progress report to next hearing on February 24. The judge also ordered the IO to add sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case since it was ordered by the judicial magistrate.
