Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) cannot be run without improving revenue recovery.
He said this while chairing a meeting of the revenue department’s head at his office on Tuesday. Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman was also present. The mayor urged the officers to expedite efforts for revenue enhancement and to take measures to overcome the shortfall in the budget. He said that departmental performance would be reviewed every month.
He directed the revenue officers to remove any hurdle in the provision of better municipal facilities to Karachiites, adding that the maintenance of inner roads of the Karachi Zoo and repairing of animal cages should also be done immediately.

Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Ateeq Mir along with representatives of affected markets by the anti-encroachment drive called on the Mayor at his office to thank him for providing alternate places for business to the affected shopkeepers.
Akhtar said the action against encroachments was carried out on the orders of the Supreme Court and it was in the better interest of the city. He said over 1,443 shopkeepers were given alternative places and the remaining shopkeepers would also be provided with some substitute.
