Shujaat requests CJ to reform defamation laws
LAHORE : Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) President and former Prime Minister Ch Shujaat Hussain has said the decision of Pakistan Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa about fake witnesses is appreciable but defamation laws in Pakistan are weak and he should favour the nation and reform them so that nobody is humiliated without evidence.
In a statement issued here Saturday, he said that it is also mentioned in the holy Quran that Allahs curse be on liars and requested the Apex Court to take measures for curbing liars and those leveling allegations without evidence.
He said that there was hardly any politician in Pakistan who had gone to London and filed a defamation case against a prominent newspaper there. "We have never got loan written off but the newspaper had leveled allegations against us that we have got loan written off. We filed a case against the news in the Queen Bench of London High Court.
After one month of hearing, the newspaper not only published apology on the front page but also paid all expenses of the lawyers in London and Pakistan," he added. —NNI
Our correspondent adds: Barabri Party Pakistan (BPP) Chairman Jawad Ahmad said the current leaders should not use the previous debt as an excuse to make the lives of the people miserable. Imran Khan does not have the capability to give relief to the people. Claims of providing employment and housing to the people are turning out to be bogus, he added.
The ruling party is ridiculing Pakistan by soliciting money from various sources, worldwide, said Jawad.
He said the government acquired more debt in the last six months compared to what the previous government had borrowed in the same duration. Regardless, the inflation and value of the dollar are increasing, whilst Pakistani Rupee is depreciating. Exports of commodities have also experienced a decline. Jawad said this whilst addressing BPP’s central executive committee’s meeting.
