England’s Wounded Tiger Club lose in Bahawalpur
BAHAWALPUR: Wounded Tiger Cricket Club of England, led by renowned journalist and sports writer Peter Oborne, visited Bahawalpur and played a 30 overs friendly fixture against Sir Sadiq Gymkhana Bahawalpur at Dring Stadium, Pakistan’s first Test Centre.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Nayyar Iqbal was the guest of honour for this friendship fixture. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner Saqib Saeed and DPO Amir Taimoor Khan.
Batting first Sir Sadiq Gymkhana Club scored 263for 6 in 30 overs. Hamid Ali Kharra blasted 89 and earned man of the match award. Fawad Anwar 51 and Hafeez 27 were other main scorers. Jonathan Collitte, Mujeeb, Duncan Grehan and Tom Gibbs took 1 wicket each.
In reply Wounded Tiger Club could managed 187 for 6 in 30 overs. Nick Taylor made brilliant 82 M Altaf and Hamid took 2 wickets each as Sir Sadiq Gymkhana Club won the match by 76 runs.
First class umpire Ameen Abbasi and Lt. Col (rtd) Ian Vaughan from England supervised the match. Peter Oborne while talking with The News said that Pakistan is a peaceful country and people of Pakistan are peace-loving, great hosts and cricket fans. He said that they had earlier played matches in Karachi, Hyderabad.
Everywhere people gave them tremendous respect and honour. However they enjoyed a lot playing at Dring Stadium. He thanked the people of Bahawalpur, cricket Organisers and district administration for taking care of the team members.
