LAHORE The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has been declared the second best medical university of Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission in its latest ranking. The university has also been included in the list of top 10 universities of the country. According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the criteria for HEC universities’ rankings for 2014 included assessing various markers such as quality assurance, teaching quality, research, finance and facilities, social integration and community development which have been assigned the total score of 100 points. UHS has scored 72.272 points in overall ranking whereas in medical category it has been given 87.623 out of total 100 points. Congratulating the faculty and staff on this achievement, UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Aslam paid tribute to their devotion, enthusiasm and commitment. He urged them to take university to new heights avoiding complacency trap. “We would focus more on the quality of student learning and on excellence in both academic and administrative pursuits”, he said, adding the UHS had to become a launching pad for the inventions and creative ideas born in its labs to translate into technologies to reach the grassroots. UHS VC said the potential for advances in health research was quite promising. He added the main target of the university was to develop its new campus at Kala Shah Kaku. He resolved that UHS would compete for a place in QS World Ranking of the universities.
