Support for minister

Pervaiz Rashid is in the cross hairs of the religious lobby for criticising the role of certain madressahs. The opening salvo was fired when the Wafaqul Madaris Al Arabia held a demonstration outside the National Press Club. The protesters demanded the minister should resign.
A vilification campaign was started against the minister. Banners with hate-filled material and derogatory remarks sprang up all over the capital. The hatred spewed out against the minister clearly put his life in danger. The government as usual acted with pusillanimity and did not mount a robust campaign to defend its own minister. The government has to uphold rule of law and give protection to people against religious extremism.
