LAHORE
PUNJAB Minister for Education and Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood has said that the Punjab government in collaboration with non-government sector will organise a three-day national conference to discuss the implementation and impact of National Action Plan against terrorism and extremism starting from May 27.
He made this announcement while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club here Sunday.
The Punjab government and a youth development organisation would host “Peaceful Pakistan Conference” at a local hotel here from May 27-29.
Rana Mashhood said objective of the conference was to pay tribute to martyrs of terror incidents and discuss implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) to tackle extremism. He said the conference would also discuss and debate NAP and would give suggestions too. The families of terror victims, including parents of Army Public School Peshawar children would also participate in the conference, he added. He said the Punjab government had also organised essay and speech competitions among school students on the subject of counter terrorism. He said youth had a big role in promoting peace and
tolerance.
Sabiha Shaheen said the conference would also discuss the role of media in curbing extremism, increasing intolerance, hate mongering on social media and misuse of cyber space. She said youth of the country wanted peace and their response to the restoration of international cricket in Pakistan after six years showed their desire for peace very clearly and openly.
Vikas Mokal, who is also chairman of Punjab Youth Parliamentary Caucus, said the peace conference was a timely initiative, adding that youths could play a big role in ensuring peace, harmony and tolerance.
It was informed that President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain would inaugurate the conference while Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, ministers, parliamentarians, intellectuals, writers, academics and students from across Pakistan would participate in the conference.
Among the key participants of the conference
include Senator Syed Mushahid Hussain, other
senior politicians and
journalists.
