LAHORE: Dengue continued to haunt citizens as larva has been found from hundreds of places especially indoor sources from various areas of the provincial metropolis during the first five months (till date) of the year 2015.
Sources in City District Government Lahore (CDGL) revealed that other than outdoor sources such as tyre shops, junk yards, under construction buildings and nurseries, dengue larvae was also found in indoor sources such as flower pots, refrigerator trays, water tanks and etc in several houses of various city localities.
Sources said during the first five months of this year, dengue larvae were found more from indoor sources, which showed that massive dengue awareness campaigns should be launched immediately to educate the citizens.
Data collected from Environment Protection Department (EPD) revealed that EPD teams found a total 1,126 indoor and outdoor sources of dengue larvae, which included 25 from Wagah Town, 122 from Gulberg Town, 46 from Samanabad Town, 127 from Shalimar Town, 144 from Aziz Bhatti Town, 207 from Nishter Town, 134 from Allama Iqbal Town, 205 from Data Ganj Baksh Town and 116 from Ravi Town. On the other hand, the CDGL checked over 1.4 million indoor sources and over 0.5 million outdoor sources and cases were registered against 102 persons after discovery of dengue larvae from their homes.
Meanwhile, Health Department officials said that 31 fogger, 125 plastic machines and 40 machines of steel body for carrying out IRS are in the working condition which are checked on daily basis. They said the government was making the all-out effort to combat dengue.
