LAHORE
Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has criticised Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s (PMDC) decision to hold assessment/exit examination after house job to grant permanent registration to the medical/dental graduates in the country.
Speaking at a press conference at PMA House on Tuesday, Lahore PMA president Dr Tanveer Anwar, general secretary Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Izhar Ahmad Ch and others observed that Executive Council of PMDC was working in conflict with the Section 10 of PMDC ordinance (amended) 2012, therefore current decisions of this executive council are unconstitutional and are threat to the future of newly-graduating doctors. The current recommendation of executive council reflects that universities will take examination on conclusion of house job and on the maximum two chances will be given to house officer to qualify examination, otherwise he or she shall repeat house job.
The office-bearers observed that the completion of house job was itself an assessment and an experience certificate from the professor and subsequent approval by the medical superintendent confirm the skills the house office has learnt, therefore no university examination was needed for this assessment.
The executive council is creating chaos, confusion and anarchy for young doctors in the name of this ‘futile examination cycle’. The office-bearers also highlighted the chaos and confusion created by CME Model of PMDC, which is adding insult to injury for senior doctors.
