A day after three madrassa students fell victim to a reckless tanker driver in Orangi Town, another road tragedy occurred in the city on Tuesday as three people were killed and 10 others seriously injured by an out-of-control passenger bus.
The incident occurred in Liaquatabad No 10 and, as per reports, the bus (DYU-130) rammed into two motorcycles and a rickshaw before running over people standing at a bus stop.
An enraged mob managed to get a hold of the bus driver but, fortunately, stopped short of beating him to death. The vehicle, however, was torched and charred beyond use before fire tenders reached the site.
While two of the victims – Bilqees Bibi (40) and Irshad (23) – were identified, the identity of a third man could not be confirmed. The injured – Owais, Najma, Zaman, Hina, Faheem, Shahid, Zakir, Rashid, Imdad Ali and Sultan – and the bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
On Monday, three children who were heading home from a madrassa in Orangi Town’s Khairabad area died senselessly as a water tanker ran them over as they walked along a footpath.
