PESHAWAR: Residents of various villages Saturday said that they were receiving inflated electricity bills and were also being subjected to excessive power outages.
Addressing a news conference here, Jan Afzal Surezai said that though they regularly deposited power bills, the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) had been carrying out unannounced electricity loadshedding for 20 to 22 hours in Surezai, Musazai, and Mira Surezai villages. Several elders from various areas were also present on the occasion.
He alleged that State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali had instructed Pesco to carry out maximum power outages in their localities of NA-4 due to political rivalry, which ultimately affected poor people.
He, however, admitted that the electricity was being stolen in their localities, adding, it was not only issue of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but the same was being done in other parts of the country as well.
The residents demanded the government and Pesco to stop excessive power outages and sending them inflated bills in all villages, otherwise, they would remove their electricity meters and stop paying bills from the next month.
