KU teachers’ research on city’s main issues lauded

The research scholars of the Department of Public Administration, the Faculty of Management and the Administrative Sciences of the University of Karachi (KU) are contributing tremendously in collaboration with the George Mason University on issues of the megacity of Karachi.
This initiative will be a source of relief to the growing population of the city. Sound education facilities and civic amenities are the need and the right of every citizen.
These views were expressed by the principal secretary to the Sindh governor, Muhammad Hussain Syed, during a meeting with a group of research scholars of the Department of Public Administration, KU, on Friday.
The group was led by Professor Mehtab S Karim (GMU) to apprise the chancellor’s secretariat of their progress, following a visit to the GMU in June last year.
Dr Karim appreciated the active leadership and guidance of Professor Dr Khalid M Iraqi, Dean, Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, and Professor James Witte and Professor Roger Stough from the GMU.
He particularly mentioned the support of KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser for this project of the University Partnership Programme between the two universities.
He added that research work was in progress on burning issues of the megacity like education, health, transport, youth entrepreneurship, water and sanitation, and the research findings would be a reliable source of preparing practicable solutions to these public issues.
There was also a presentation by the research scholars on their assignments relating to the megacity management project. The research scholars, in the course of their assignments, will meet the authorities of other government sector organisations as well.
Dr Karim thanked Muhammad Hussain Syed for the encouragement on behalf of the chancellor’s secretariat.
